Surveys,
Surveys, Surveys… I know we have been over them before; but I enjoy them so
much, we are going to discuss them again. Paper-based surveys are one of the
original methods used to obtain the pulse of the crowd, and I am confident this
methodology is here to stay. “How can that be? Everything is going digital,
social media is the way of the future; iPads and Tablets will take over….”
seems to be a common feeling expressed among the masses. I agree and disagree.
Yes, polling is going digital / mobile. There are more online / email &
telephone / cellphone surveys than ever before and someone will finally figure
out how to effectively survey the masses over social media. But… a paper-based survey will only then get stronger, when used properly. As direct mail
marketing dwindles and more and more people are asked pointless questions via
phone, email, online pop-ups and Facebook; a paper-based survey will only stick
out and raise the question “why is this so important that it deserves to be
printed?” That is the question which will allow paper-based surveys to leverage
its advantages of: hard to reach audiences, people with an in-depth interest
into the topic and lengthier more in-depth questions. I can see a day when
receiving something in the mailbox, especially a well-crafted and eye catching
envelope, immediately grabs the attention of the recipient and forces them to
at least open the envelope which is half the battle; this vision is reinforced
by the fact that paper-surveys will be seen as a diamond in the rough, uniquely
important and worth the time of the recipient.
There
are more angles and ways that paper-based surveys will become the “best” method
for obtaining the pulse of the crowd.
